RIFT macros

RIFT has the most permissive macro system of any mainstream MMO. A single /cast list fires top-to-bottom and stops at the first ability that is off cooldown, which makes true one-button "spam macros" possible. /suppressmacrofailures hides the resulting error spam, and an asterisk after an ability name marks it as off the global cooldown.

How macros work in RIFT

Macros are written in the in-game macro window, capped at 20 lines, and support ability priority lists — the client walks the list and casts the first usable ability.

Setting one up

  1. Type /macro to open the macro window.
  2. Click Create, name the macro and pick an icon (or use #show <Ability> to mirror an ability icon).
  3. List your abilities in priority order, highest priority first, one /cast per line.
  4. Put abilities with no cooldown last — anything after them will never fire.
  5. Add /suppressmacrofailures on the second line to silence "ability not ready" errors.
  6. Drag the macro to a hotbar slot and bind it.

Rules and limits

  • A macro is limited to 20 lines.
  • Mark off-global-cooldown abilities with a trailing asterisk, e.g. /cast Bolt of Judgment*.
  • Instant abilities placed before channelled ones will interrupt the channel.
  • Order matters more than anything else — an ability with no cooldown blocks every line beneath it.

66 macros

  • #show Your Buff
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast @self Your Buff

@self forces a friendly ability onto you no matter what you have targeted. Far more reliable than the older trick of typing your own character name into a /target line, and it survives a character rename.

  • #show Pillaging Stone
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Surging Flare
    /cast Volcanic Bomb
    /cast Earthen Barrage
    /cast Leeching Flames
    /cast Pillaging Stone
    /cast Flame Bolt*
    +3 more

This macro is designed for Archon and can be customized with your preferred DPS spells. Be mindful of the order of spells, and make sure to place Pillaging Stone at the end, as it has no recast. Off global cooldowns and ranged abilities can be placed after Pillaging Stone. This macro will suppress macro failures.

  • #show Savage Strike
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Puncture
    /cast Backstab
    /cast Savage Strike
    /cast Flash of Steel*
    /cast Quick Shot*
    /cast Serpent Strike
    +3 more

This macro is used for quickly damaging a single target. Arrange your dps spells in any order you want, but be mindful that some spells should always go at the end of a macro. Ensure that Savage Strike is placed last, since if you list it first the rest of your macro will never fire due to Savage Strike having no recast time. Off global cooldowns and ranged abilities can be placed after Savage Strike as off global cooldowns fire first and don't interfere with global cooldown spells. Ranged abilities will still activate if your target moves outside of your melee range.

  • #show Coda of Restoration
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Coda of Restoration

The healing half of the Bard rotation. Coda of Restoration is your spammable group heal, and suppressing macro failures keeps the error text off your screen when you are out of energy.

  • #show Virtuoso
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Riff
    /cast Virtuoso

Keeps Riff up and refreshes Virtuoso from a single key. Riff is your maintenance buff and Virtuoso is the cooldown that amplifies it, so pairing them means the buff is never the thing you forgot.

  • #show Motif of Regeneration
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Motif of Regeneration
    /importkeybindings 2
    #show Motif of Grandeur
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Motif of Grandeur
    /importkeybindings 3
    #show Motif of Tenacity
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Motif of Tenacity
    /importkeybindings 4
    #show Motif of Focus
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Motif of Focus
    /importkeybindings 5
    #show Motif of Bravery
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Motif of Bravery
    /importkeybindings 1
    +15 more

This is five separate macros, not one — each casts a motif and then swaps your keybinding profile so the same key runs the next macro in the chain. Create five action bars in the interface settings, place one block per bar in the order shown, and bind the same key on each. Pressing it five times cycles every motif.

  • #show backhanded blow
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Flesh Rip
    /cast Slashing Strike
    /cast Backhanded Blow
    /cast Fierce Strike
    +1 more

This macro is an example of a bleed spam macro for the Beastmaster class. You can arrange your DPS spells in any order, but make sure to place certain spells at the end, like Fierce Strike, to avoid disrupting the macro.

  • #show Keen Strike
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Precision Strike
    /cast Quick Strike
    /cast Keen Strike

This macro allows Blade Dancers to deal damage to a single target by spamming their DPS abilities. The player can arrange the spells in any order, but should ensure that Keen Strike is placed last since it has no recast time.

  • #show Tyranny
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Curse of Solitude
    /cast Vile Power
    /cast Ravaging Darkness
    /cast Tyranny
    +1 more

This macro is an AOE spam for Cabalist, allowing you to arrange your DPS spells in any desired order. Make sure to place certain spells like Tyranny at the end of the macro to prevent interference with other spells due to no recast.

  • #show Shadow's Touch
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast Curse of Discord
    /cast Obliterate
    /cast Dark Water
    /cast Sanction Heretic*
    /cast Shadow's Touch
    +2 more

This macro is a single target spam for Cabalist, allowing you to arrange your DPS spells in any desired order. Make sure to place certain spells like Shadow's Touch at the end of the macro to prevent interference with other spells due to no recast.

  • #show Your Ability
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast @focus Your Ability

Sends an ability at your focus target regardless of what you have selected. Set the tank or the enemy healer as focus and this becomes a permanent second target you can act on at will.

  • #show Your Ability
    /suppressmacrofailures
    /cast @mouseover Your Ability
    /cast Your Ability

Casts at whoever your cursor is over, falling through to your current target. Works for heals and for damage, and it is the fastest way to react to a raid frame without giving up your target.

Using macros in RIFT

RIFT, a free-to-play MMORPG developed by Trion Worlds, has become increasingly popular among gamers for its captivating storyline, expansive world, and innovative gameplay. One of the most useful features of RIFT is the ability to create and utilize macros, which are simple sequences of commands that can help streamline your gameplay experience.

Introduction to Macros in RIFT

Macros are customizable sequences of commands that allow players to execute multiple actions with a single button press or keybind. Macros can be used to perform a wide range of tasks, such as casting spells, using items, targeting enemies, or executing complex ability rotations. They can be particularly helpful in reducing the number of keybinds a player needs to memorize and improving overall gameplay efficiency.

Creating and Editing Macros

Creating and editing macros in RIFT is simple and straightforward. To create a new macro, follow these steps:

  1. Press the ESC key to open the main menu.
  2. Click on the Macros icon or press CTRL + M to open the Macro window.
  3. Click the New button at the bottom of the Macro window.
  4. Type a name for your macro in the Name field and select an icon for it.
  5. In the Commands field, enter the macro commands you want to use, one per line.
  6. Save your macro by clicking the Save button.
  7. To assign your macro to a hotkey, drag the macro icon from the Macro window to a hotkey slot on your action bar.

To edit an existing macro, open the Macro window, select the macro from the list, make the necessary changes to the Name and/or Commands fields, and click Save.

Macro Commands

RIFT macros consist of a series of commands, which can be categorized into the following types:

Basic Commands

These commands perform basic actions, such as casting abilities, using items, or targeting.

  • /cast [ability name]: Casts the specified ability.
  • /use [item name]: Uses the specified item.
  • /target [name]: Targets the specified player, NPC, or enemy.

Advanced Commands

These commands provide additional functionality, such as creating timed delays, suppressing error messages, or setting focus targets.

  • /wait [time]: Pauses the macro for the specified time in seconds (limited to a maximum of 5 seconds).
  • /suppressmacrofailures: Prevents error messages from displaying when a macro command fails.
  • /focus [name]: Sets the specified target as your focus target.

Conditional Statements

Conditional statements allow you to create macros that perform different actions based on certain conditions. This can help you create more versatile and powerful macros. Here are some commonly used conditional statements in RIFT:

@target

The @target conditional allows you to specify a target for an ability without changing your current target. For example, you can use this to cast a heal on a specific party member without deselecting your enemy target:

/cast [ability name] @party1

@mouseover

The @mouseover conditional allows you to cast an ability on the target you are currently mousing over, without having to select them. This is especially useful for healing and support roles:

/cast [ability name] @mouseover

@focus

The @focus conditional lets you cast an ability on your focus target without having to select them. This is helpful for keeping track of specific targets in a battle, such as enemy healers or important NPCs:

/cast [ability name] @focus

Combining Macros with Addons

Addons are community-created modifications that can enhance your gameplay experience in RIFT. Some addons can work in conjunction with macros, allowing for even more customization and efficiency.

For example, you can use an addon like Click Box Healer to create a customizable healing grid and then use macros with the @mouseover conditional to quickly heal party or raid members without having to click on their unit frames.

Best Practices and Tips

To make the most of your macros in RIFT, consider the following best practices and tips:

  • Keep your macros organized by creating separate categories for different roles or characters.
  • Make use of the /suppressmacrofailures command to prevent error messages from cluttering your screen.
  • Utilize conditional statements to create versatile and context-aware macros.
  • Be cautious when using the /wait command, as using long wait times can negatively impact your gameplay efficiency.
  • Experiment with different macros and commands to find what works best for your playstyle and character.

Macros are a powerful and flexible tool that can greatly enhance your gameplay experience in RIFT. By understanding how to create, edit, and utilize macros effectively, you can streamline your gameplay, reduce the number of keybinds you need to memorize, and ultimately become a more efficient and effective player. With this comprehensive guide, you now have the knowledge and tools needed to master the art of macros in RIFT. Happy gaming!
